I still have the Monday night game to go before reporting on the betting results for the week, but just to give you a hint, I made six predictions for yesterday's games and all of them were right. Granted, one game only won by half a point and the Eagles did not beat the Packers as I thought they might, but going into tonite, I am 6-0 for the weekend.

For those of you who read this but are fortunate enough not to have to negotiate the Washington DC area traffic disasters, there is an indication for you about how bad it is. FedEx Field is located just off the infamous Washington Beltway and on Sunday's when the Redskins play, the traffic jams on the Beltway can be enormous. Tonite, they play such that rush hour and game traffic can coincide. That thought is mind-numbing. So the Redskins will open the parking lots at FedEx Field at 3:00PM for people who want to get there early and tailgate until the 9:00 game. Six hours of tailgating! If they allowed that in Philly, profits for Budweiser would reach record levels. Just remember this little vignette when you begin to hear about the efforts of some misguided souls who want to bring the Olympics here in 2012. You may need to get to a game 6 hours early to avoid traffic when there is only one game going on; imagine when there are dozens of events all at the same time.

Deidra Lane is charged with murdering her husband, Fred Lane, the former Carolina Panthers' running back. She has also been arrested for bank larceny and has a previous record of bad check writing and the attempted robbery of a bank/credit union. It appears that one of her motives in the alleged murder was to collect on a $5M life insurance policy for which she was the beneficiary. Forensic evidence now seems to show that Fred Lane was the receiver of two blasts with a shotgun; the second one was to the back of his head at close range. I'm trying to think of the "self-defense story" I would try to concoct here but one is not jumping into my mind any faster than anything is coming to Fred Lane's mind at the moment.

Saturday, I watched the Woodward Stakes at Belmont as a prep race for the Breeders Cup which is in 7 weeks. Lemon Drop Kid won by a nosehair in a mile and an eighth race in 1:50 2/5. It was his fourth win in a row in major stakes races but the time was horrible; middle range allowance horses run a mile and an eighth in 1:51; the stakes record and track record are 1:45 1/5 which is a huge differential. And Lemon Drop Kid stalked the leader of the race to a 3/4 time of 1:10 3/5 which means essentially that he ambled the final 3/8 of a mile in 40 seconds. That is a workout time that is so bad that it would make you want to sell your horse to a glue factory.

Speaking of a glue factory, on that telecast I saw an advertisement for a California Equine Retirement Center - a place for old racehorses to go and to live out their lives quietly and in a loving environment. I wonder if they have a policy there that forbids any employee from being named "Elmer"?

Meanwhile Colonial Downs in at the height of their racing season in New Kent County Virginia. As usual, the racing stinks and no one goes to see it. They no longer report attendance and handle figures in the paper, but Daily Racing Form does and last Saturday the attendance was just over 3,000. You can buy the stock in this losing concern for about 65 cents a share. How low can it go, you ask? I think the number "ZERO" comes quickly to mind.

Saturday, Kansas State beat Ball State 76-0. It was 34-0 at the quarter and 48-0 at the half. Ball State ran the ball 45 times and gained 46 yards; they managed exactly 5 yards passing. How do these games get scheduled? Why do they go on? Who could enjoy watching that?

In the "Irrelevant Bowl" I talked about last week, Connecticut beat Buffalo 24-21. Recall that I said that Buffalo had lost to Rutgers by 59-0; well Rutgers got waxed by Va Tech on Saturday by a score of 49-0. Please do not allow Va Tech and Buffalo to play each other!

Come Christmas time, you can buy Venus and Serena Williams dolls. Move over Barbie; these ladies play for keeps.

For those of you who are too busy to scan the agate type in the Olympics results, let me help you out. Hungary beat Angola in Women's Team Handball by a score of 42-22. You're welcome.

In the NFL this weekend, defenses took over and won games. The Jets defense shut out the Bills for the second half - something that was done a lot yesterday - and the Jets used 5 Bills' turnovers to win by 13 even though the Bills produced almost a hundred yards more offense than did the Jets. The Jets are 3-0 - surprisingly.

The Giants are also 3-0 - surprisingly after beating the Bears 14-7 and shutting out the Bears in the second half. Going into the game yesterday against the Giants, Cade McNown was the leading rusher for the Bears having gained 136 yards in the first two games. Yesterday, he only ran once for 4 yards. One of the stories of the game was that the Giants had 74 offensive plays and the Bears only 52. It is amazing that this was only a 7 point differential.

The Bucs squashed the Lions 31-10 and they shut the Lions out in the second half. The Lions did manage to score their first offensive TD of the year with no time left in the half on a Hail Mary pass that was caught by the Lions receiver amidst about 4 Bucs. The Lions tried to run the ball only 10 times and gained all of 17 yards for the game on the ground.

The Eagles shut out the Packers in the first half and led 3-0 at the half. The Packers shut the Eagles out in the second half and won the game 6-3. Total offense for the Eagles was 171 yards and they were penalized 115 yards. Staying close under those conditions does not speak highly of the Packers. But the Packers punt return team sure got in a lot of reps; the Eagles punted 9 times in the game.

Jax shut out the Bungles in the first half and they seemed to like that a lot so they also shut them out in the second half and won 13-0. Cincy QB, Akili Smith was the leading rusher for the Bungles; if you subtract his scrambles Cincy gained 50 yards on 24 running plays.

San Diego led KC 10-0 at the end of the first quarter and it was only 14-10 (KC winning) at the half even though the Chargers had a net offense of 48 yards at halftime. But KC shut out the Chargers in the second half and won 42-10. Total offense for the Chargers was 187 yards and Moses Moreno had to leave the game with an injured shoulder.

Oakland and Denver were tied at 24 at the half; Oakland had started another of its big comebacks having trailed 17-0 and 24-7 in the first half. Then Denver shut out the Raiders in the second half and won the game 33-24. Mike Anderson who is Denver's third string RB gained 187 yards in the game; Denver only netted 182 yards for the game thanks to 5 scrambles by Griese for minus 5 yards.

The Falcons and the Pantloads were tied at 10 at the half but Atlanta shut out Carolina in the second half and won the game 15-10. There were 6 turnovers and 11 punts in this game which means watching it was about as enjoyable as a root canal.

Seattle shut out the Saints in the second half and won 20-10. Ricky Williams gained 107 yards; Ricky Watters gained 105 yards. I doubt that much else happened here that mattered as much as a dandruff flake.

But there is always one team that does not get the word. The Pats shut out the Vikes in the second half, but the Pats still lost the game because they could not overcome the lead they had surrendered at halftime. The Pats are 0-3 but have only been outscored by 14 points in the three games. The other three who are 0-3 have been outscored by an average of 42.6 points.

Wanna know why Kent Graham lost out in a QB battle with Dave Brown? With 14 seconds to play and no time outs, Graham had the ball at the Cleveland 8 yard line trailing by 3. The bench called for a pass play and when the rush came, Graham tried to step up and was sacked by Courtney Brown and time ran out giving the Browns a win and making the 2-1 for the year. Graham has been in the league about 6 years now and as soon as he felt trouble, that ball should have been in row 10 of the end zone seats to stop the clock and set up the chip shot field goal and OT. If a rookie makes that mistake, you might think he is just a bonehead; for a veteran to do it makes him a shoo-in for initiation into the Order of the Millennial Morons.

The Rams crushed the Niners and the interesting thing here was that Isaac Bruce had 188 yards receiving which is more than the total offensive production of either the Chargers or the Eagles.

Baltimore lost in a monsoon in the Sunday night game. It is always fun to watch a game or two each year played in either a driving rain or a howling snowstorm and last night gave me my fix for a while.

Tonight is the Skins and Dallas and took the Skins and gave 10. The Cowboys chose not to play Aikman because he is suffering from some form of post-concussion syndrome which makes him more prone to another concussion. If he gets only one or two more, he will be known as Troy "Head-Ache" man.

But don't get me wrong, I love sports...
